Remembering Reading

Remembering Reading is a nonprofit organization formed with the mission of safeguarding the tangible narratives of our past; the historical site, artifacts and heritage, that stand as a testament to bygone eras, and to sharing, promoting and educating present and future generations about the richness of our Flat Rock community.

HOW WE BEGAN

The Remembering Reading Corporation (Nonprofit) was formed originally to save 110-year-old building. The Reading School at that time owned by the Flat Rock Community School District, at that time owned by the Flat Rock Community Schol District, from being razed, our intention was to make it into a Children’s Hands-On Museum, as we do not have one in the downriver area. In addition, the space was to be utilized as community meeting place and event center. Unfortunately, this was not to be and our organization found an historic home not far from the school, previously owned by the Littlefield family and we pivoted our efforts toward its restoration.
